S.F.D. Mission: Open Letter to Jennifer Mason-Black of Devil and the Bluebird!

S.F.D. Open Letter to Jennifer Mason-Black

Hi guys! Today I'm on another S.F.D. mission! If you missed my post introducing Sassy's Fangirl Debuts, click here to learn about it. I'll be sharing my second open letter to a debut author! But first, of course, a little about the book ;)

Goodreads Summary:
“Devil-at-the-crossroads” folklore finds its way to YA via this moody, magical tale.

Blue Riley has wrestled with her own demons ever since the loss of her mother to cancer. But when she encounters a beautiful devil at her town crossroads, it’s her runaway sister’s soul she fights to save. The devil steals Blue’s voice—inherited from her musically gifted mother—in exchange for a single shot at finding Cass.

Armed with her mother’s guitar, a knapsack of cherished mementos, and a pair of magical boots, Blue journeys west in search of her sister. When the devil changes the terms of their deal, Blue must reevaluate her understanding of good and evil and open herself to finding family in unexpected places.

In Devil and the Bluebird, Jennifer Mason-Black delivers a heart-wrenching depiction of loss and hope.

Now, here's my letter :D

Dear Ms. Mason-Black,
I haven't seen a lot of promo for Devil and the Bluebird yet but I'm here to tell you how excited I am for it! I remember seeing the cover on Twitter and thinking, "Wow, that's beautiful, I'll have to look it up!", which I did. The book summary definitely peaked my interest. I mean, just the title alone made me curious about the story.
I love that it's pitched as folklore in YA. I don't think I've ever heard of anything like it. It's super unique and eye-catching. Oh and it's got the devil in it! What will the devil be like? I mean, besides being all tricky and evil ;) ANDDD another story about siblings! They're my absolute favourite. The synopsis sounds emotional but I'm ready to fight alongside Blue for her sister!
The simple yet detailed design of your cover really speaks out. The guitar has to be Blue's mother's guitar, right? I can't wait to find out what all the drawings inside it symbolize. I'm sure they're all very significant and will help us understand Blue.
Thank you for sharing Blue's story with us. I'm really hoping she'll find more than her sister on her journey. Now I'll just be here eagerly awaiting the chance to hear Blue's voice ;)

A new Fangirl,

  4. Oh! Folklore! That's definitely something you don't see everyday in YA.

I hadn't heard of this book before finding your letter, Eileen, but I think I'm going to read this one when it comes out. It's just too interesting to pass up. :)
